Offering a range of courses, including the industry-acclaimed NVQ Level 2 course, Mike Taylor Education can successfully train you through your NVQ Level 2, 3 and 4. In addition to the NVQ courses, the academy also offers a range of in-demand one-day workshops which focus on different techniques within the hair and barbering industry.
In addition to the private NVQ courses, Mike Taylor Education offers barbering and hairdressing apprenticeships utilising the academies network of barbershops and salons across the south of England. The team within the academy have worked with many salons and barbershops to develop and deliver a bespoke training course tailored to suit individual requirements.
Based in Poole Dorset, Mike Taylor Education operates in a real-life barbershop. After some time with a training head, you'll quickly move to cut the hair of physical customers from the academies client base. This training program guarantees you maximum hands-on time with highly skilled educators. Thanks to the training received with MTE, I left my course with a job, which developed into a career that I love. Since graduating, I continue to receive mentorship and support within my personal barbering journey. I’ve gone from a part time course in barbering to running a successful business and owning three of my own shops. Learning to cut hair at such a high standard was key to the success of my own businesses. The environment I learned in helped me to understand how a shop should be run including cutting standards, how to provide great customer service and create a space that barbers can thrive in and that clients love. Training with MTE was a defining factor in realising what I wanted to do with my career and ultimately my life.
The training that I did with Mike Taylor Education was life changing. Having retired from my previous career as a policeman, which I had done for 30 years, the change could have been massively intimidating. However, the support and level of understanding I received from Mike and the team was exemplary and reassured me that I was in safe hands allowing me to perform to the best of my ability in the best training environment. After the training I felt confident in starting a new job. The key principles that I took with me were good communication, the importance of consultation and working within your limits plus never forgetting the basics. I now own my own barber shop and those principles are still just as valuable.
I completed my level 2 course at Mike Taylor’s Academy in October 2021 and I couldn’t have picked a better place to start my career. I chose Mike’s after researching different academies, as I thought the environment would suit me and my personality and they did not disappoint. The reviews online and from friends who had used the services there were a major factor in my decision, but mostly it was the friendliness and information from both Mike and Emily when I first contacted them regarding starting the course that ensured I knew going in that I had made the right choice. During the course I met some fantastic people, both trainees and the educators and this is something that I enjoyed most during the course. The educators were a mix of both experience and styles meaning that you were able to pick up tips and styles from a range of people who had all worked within the industry for a long time. Being on the older side of retraining, the confidence gained from Mike in being able to build a full lasting career was a massive benefit and the guidance from the educators from start to finish is excellent and has resulted in me being shop ready from the moment that I left the academy. I would tell anyone thinking of starting a career in barbering that Mike Taylors is the place for them. They will leave the course full of confidence, trained to an exceptional level and ready to kick on within a shop environment. I’d extremely glad that I chose Mike Taylors.
